It’s pretty likely that you’ve learned about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning at some point in your life. You know that this odorless, invisible gas is very common and that excessive exposure to it can kill a human in about five minutes. Most people know that basic information. But we all need reminders to be on guard against this silent killer.

Carbon monoxide (CO) exposure can be easily prevented by using CO detectors. You probably have smoke detectors in your home, but do they also offer CO detection features? If they don’t, can you install standalone CO detectors? Do you have CO detection installed on each level of your home, preferably near heating elements? If your home is well-covered, do the CO detectors work properly? Do you test them regularly? Do you replace the batteries according to a schedule, if they’re not directly connected to your home’s electrical system?
