Thermal imaging is a remarkable technology. The fact that you can use a device to detect and measure the infrared energy of an object and then display that information back to you in a recognizable image is simply mind-blowing. However, this amazing technology also has its limitations. Thermal imaging will not tell you the future, and simply looking at the images from an infrared camera will not diagnose every issue you can expect to deal with in your house.

Fortunately, having a professional home inspector who is trained to use thermal imaging in home inspections and provide accurate and meaningful interpretations of the data is where thermal imaging technology really shines. Thermal imaging will show you what areas are hot or cold, but interpreting that information means knowing where things should or should not be hot or cold. It also means having a familiarity with a wide range of potential issues that a home could be experiencing based on the symptoms shown.
